The seemingly minimalistic card game Balatro has unexpectedly become one of the hits of 2024. Its creator is probably pleased with this turn of events, because the mobile version of the title alone has already brought him impressive money, which can be understood from the data of AppMagic and PocketGamer.biz.

The project debuted on iOS and Android devices only at the end of September. Before that, the game was available on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Switch and macOS. Curiously, the mobile version of Balatro has no microtransactions at all, which makes its financial success even more impressive.

It is noteworthy that the title's revenue has grown significantly over the past week. This surge is apparently connected with Balatro's nomination for The Game Awards 2024, where it will compete for the title of game of the year with such giants as Astro Bot, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, Metaphor: ReFantazio and Black Myth: Wukong.

Balatro was previously named the indie game of the year 2024 by the Golden Joystick Awards and became a finalist for the App Store Award, which only strengthens its status as one of the main indie events of the year.
