Black Myth: Wukong Inspires Chinese Investors to Invest in AAA Projects

The action game from Game Science studio became one of the most notable releases of the last year, winning the hearts of players and critics. This success, according to analysts, opened a new page in the history of the video game industry in China, attracting the attention of investors to high-budget projects.



Consultant Daniel Camilo noted that after the triumph of Wukong, Chinese publishers reconsidered their views on the AAA segment, which had previously remained in the shadow of mobile titles and free-to-play projects. For example, the creators of Phantom Blade Zero were able to receive additional funding, albeit at a late stage of production. The success of Black Myth also caused a surge in investment offers for other promising projects, but many teams chose to refuse, choosing an independent path.



Earlier, Game Science talked about the difficulties of attracting specialists to create a premium action game, since the development of large projects was not considered a profitable direction in China. Now the situation is changing: AAA games are beginning to be perceived as a source of significant income and an important stage in the development of the industry.
