Microsoft is apparently planning to finally shut down Skype next spring. In a new test version of the program for Windows, developers have found code that indicates the estimated date of the service's closure and offers an alternative for users.

According to XDA-Developers, the code of the current build contains the line: "Starting in May, Skype will no longer be available. Continue calling and chatting in Teams." Although there has been no official comment from Microsoft yet, the information found hints at the imminent closure of one of the oldest messengers.
Skype began operating in 2003 and came under the control of Microsoft in 2011. However, since 2017, the company has been betting on Microsoft Teams, gradually pushing its predecessor into the background. Apparently, in the near future, users of the application may see an official notification about the closure of the service after one of the next Windows updates.
