Kanzi, one of the most famous bonobos on the planet, has passed away at the age of 44. This was reported by the Ape Initiative, the center where the primate had lived since 2004. He was found unconscious on March 18, but the exact cause of death is currently unclear. Kanzi had heart disease, but no one expected him to pass away so soon.
Kanzi was famous for his intelligence development, especially in understanding language and video games. He mastered over three hundred lexigrams, could combine them into meaningful phrases, and could understand English speech at a level exceeding the abilities of a two-year-old child.

In addition, the primate demonstrated gaming skills: he completed Pac-Man and even defeated the final boss in Minecraft, which indicates his strategic thinking. These achievements were an important step in research into the mental abilities of primates.
Kanzi was born at the Emory National Primate Research Center in Atlanta, USA, and showed an interest in learning from an early age. His research has helped experts better understand bonobos' abilities and their potential for complex thinking.
