Some video games become not just popular, but truly iconic, leaving an indelible mark on the history of the industry. These are the titles that are annually inducted into the Video Game Hall of Fame, founded by the National Museum of Play. This year, four iconic titles were awarded the honorary title: the shooter Quake, the spy action game GoldenEye 007, the virtual pet Tamagotchi, and the arcade hit Defender.

The selection of candidates was carried out with the active participation of players, who voted for the most worthy projects. The competition was serious: in the final stage, Quake, Tamagotchi, GoldenEye 007, and Defender beat out such contenders as Angry Birds, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Age of Empires, Frogger, Harvest Moon, and Mattel Football.

Previously, other iconic games were awarded the honor. In 2024, Resident Evil, Myst, SimCity, Asteroids, and Ultima made it onto the list. The year before, The Last of Us, Wii Sports, Barbie Fashion Designer, and Computer Space were honored, and in 2022, Sid Meier’s Civilization, Ms. Pac-Man, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, and Dance Dance Revolution were added to the list. Each of these works not only influenced the development of the gaming industry, but also remained in the memories of millions of fans around the world.
