Sony is preparing a next-gen portable console with a 2nm Samsung chip
According to insiders, Sony is developing a new portable gaming system codenamed Jupiter, which should become the successor to the PS Vita. The device, scheduled for release no earlier than 2028, will receive an energy-efficient AMD processor based on the Zen 5 architecture, manufactured using Samsung's promising 2-nm process technology.

A distinctive feature of the project will be a departure from traditional cooperation with TSMC in favor of Samsung, which is explained by more favorable production conditions. Compared to previous portable solutions from Sony, Jupiter is positioned as a separate platform, albeit with the ability to adapt PS5 games, probably through cloud technologies or graphics optimization.

The transition to a 2-nm process technology, which Samsung intends to master by 2026, should provide the device with a competitive advantage in the form of a balance between performance and battery life. However, the late release date (2028) poses a serious challenge for Sony, given the dynamic development of the portable systems market from players such as Valve and ASUS. The project is currently under discussion and no official confirmation has been received from the company yet.
