Gavin Rayburn, the creator of the Forza Horizon franchise and the founder of the new studio Lighthouse Games, has announced that he is working on an innovative racing project that should surpass his brainchild. After leaving Playground Games in 2023, Rayburn has assembled a team to create a fundamentally new arcade racing game, betting on fresh ideas and an unconventional approach to the genre.

In his comments, the developer emphasized the unique opportunity for innovation in the niche of racing games, where, in his opinion, there are few worthy competitors. “This is not going to be another Forza Horizon - if I wanted to make sequels, I would have stayed at Microsoft,” Rayburn said, hinting at an entirely new concept for his project.

Lighthouse Games is currently looking for a publishing partner to realize its ambitious plans. Although a specific release date has not yet been determined, Rayburn’s statement indicates his intention to challenge his own legacy and reimagine the genre he helped shape. This promises to be a serious competitor to modern racing franchises, including Need for Speed and Forza Horizon itself.
