Capcom Temporarily Froze the Remake of the First Resident Evil – Insider

A reliable source in the gaming industry, known under the pseudonym Dusk Golem, reported that Capcom has revised its plans for a remake of the cult 1996 Resident Evil. According to the information received, the project has been postponed in favor of rethinking other parts of the franchise - Resident Evil Zero and Resident Evil Code Veronica.

The decision is due to several factors. Capcom M-Two studio employs developers who participated in the creation of Resident Evil Zero, who are particularly interested in the story of Rebecca Chambers and Billy Cohen. In addition, the results of internal surveys showed increased interest from fans in these two titles. From a technical point of view, remakes of the prequel and spin-off seem less resource-intensive to developers compared to large-scale Resident Evil 5 and 6 or the original game, which is difficult to adapt.

At the same time, the insider emphasizes that work on the remake of the first Resident Evil has not been completely canceled. The company views the project as strategically important, but intends to choose the optimal moment for its launch. Currently, priority is given to less complex parts of the franchise, which will allow Capcom to maintain a stable release schedule of high-quality remakes.
