Rockstar Founder Blames Saboteurs for MindsEye Failure
Leslie Benzies, former head of Rockstar North and head of Build a Rocket Boy, has blamed internal sabotage for the failed release of MindsEye. The developer expressed confidence in the project’s ability to be rehabilitated through constant updates, despite the upcoming major layoffs at the company.

According to IGN, the development team is deeply upset by the critical failure of the project, which aggregator Metacritic named the worst game of 2025. MindsEye, which was released on June 10 on PC and consoles, faced a wave of negative reviews, which contrasts with expectations from a studio led by an industry veteran.

Benzies continues to believe in the game’s potential and the need for further development, but the situation is complicated by upcoming organizational changes at Build a Rocket Boy. The claims of internal sabotage add drama to the story of the development, which was initially positioned as an ambitious project from the creator of Grand Theft Auto.
