Need for Speed Rivals ends its online story after 12 years
Electronic Arts has officially announced plans to shut down the arcade racing game's servers on October 7, 2025, which will put an end to the cult game's multiplayer modes. The corresponding notifications have already appeared on the game's pages on Steam, EA App, PS Store, and Xbox Store, warning players about the upcoming loss of access to online features and associated achievements.

Need for Speed Rivals ends its online story after 12 years

Released in 2013, Need for Speed Rivals offered a unique dynamic for the series of confrontations between racers and police in the open world of the fictional Radview County. The game is remembered for its innovative AllDrive system for its time, erasing the boundaries between single-player and multiplayer modes.

This move by EA continues the tradition of gradually decommissioning the servers of older titles in the series - a similar fate previously befell Need for Speed (2015) and NFS Payback. For Rivals, whose servers have been running for a record 12 years, the shutdown will be a symbolic end to an era, leaving behind memorable moments of police chases and street racing.
