Lamborghini May Ditch Lanzador Electric Car in Favor of Hybrid

Italian automaker Lamborghini is revising plans to release its first electric car. The Lanzador concept, unveiled in August 2023, was originally conceived as a fully electric model with a release in 2028, but the company is now considering alternative powertrain options. The reason for the possible changes was the declining demand for premium electric cars.

Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann said that a final decision on the Lanzador has not yet been made, but the brand is exploring the possibility of equipping the model with a hybrid powertrain. He emphasized that traditional high-speed internal combustion engines provide unique emotions that electric cars are not yet able to convey. For clarity, Winkelmann cited the Tesla Model S Plaid - despite the initial excitement, sales of the model in the second quarter of 2025 amounted to only 10,394 units.

The revision of the strategy will also affect other models of the brand. Thus, the Urse crossover will switch to a hybrid version and a new Premium Platform Combustion platform, replacing the current MLB Evo. The Temerario and Revuelto sports models will use the original Lamborghini platform, which will probably be shared with the new generation of Audi R8, expected in 2028.
