RTX 5090 graphics card caught fire while playing Battlefield 6

During the Battlefield beta testing on August 10, an alarming incident occurred - the ZOTAC GeForce RTX 5090 video card suddenly caught fire during a gaming session. According to the affected player from Taiwan, after the game froze, a flame appeared from the computer case, accompanied by a characteristic burning smell, which lasted for about ten seconds. The fire damaged not only the video card itself, but also neighboring system components, and also left traces of soot on the water cooling elements.

The manufacturer ZOTAC has already begun investigating the causes of the incident. A preliminary analysis of the photographs excludes the problem typical for the RTX 4090 (melting of the 16-pin power connector), since the source of the fire was in the area of the PCIe slot. Experts suggest a possible hardware malfunction or short circuit. The victim, who bought a computer in a ready-made assembly, expects a warranty solution to the problem. The incident occurred on the eve of the second round of the Battlefield 6 beta test, which starts on August 14 with new modes and a map, and the official release of the game is scheduled for October 10 for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
