Battlefield 2042 gets major update ahead of sixth installment
Developers from DICE have released a major update 9.2.0 for Battlefield 2042, which became the last significant addition before the release of Battlefield 6. The update introduced a new map Iwo Jima with an active volcano, two firearms - the KFS2000 assault rifle and the Lynx sniper rifle, as well as two new vehicles - the A10 Warthog and SU-25TM Frogfoot assault aircraft.
Particular attention was drawn to the free battle pass, containing 60 levels with rewards. Collectible cosmetics are inspired by previous games in the series - Battlefield 1, Battlefield 5, Bad Company 2, Battlefield 3 and Battlefield 4. Some of the rewards are intended for the future Battlefield 6 and will become available after its release on October 10 on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
This update was the last major content addition for Battlefield 2042 - in the spring of 2024, DICE studio stopped active support for the game, focusing all resources on the development of Battlefield 6. Over the past months, the developers have only released bug fixes and technical improvements.
