John Wick and Deadpool 2 Director to Direct Gears of War Movie for Netflix
Producer Kelly McCormick has officially confirmed that her husband, director David Leitch, known for his work on the action films John Wick, Atomic Blonde, Deadpool 2, Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw, Bullet Train and The Fall Guy, will head up the filming of a movie based on the Gears of War game. The script for the project is being written by Jon Spaihts, who worked on Dune and Doctor Strange. Although the exact release dates have not been determined, production is unlikely to be in time for the release of the new game Gears of War: E-Day in 2026, but may be timed to support it.

McCormick noted that for Leitch, this is a chance to create a military-sci-fi project in his unique style, combining sci-fi elements and large-scale battle scenes. Casting for the role of Marcus Fenix has not yet begun, although Dave Bautista has previously shown interest in the character. The plot of the film, like the game, will unfold on the planet Sera, where the discovery of "imulsion" energy provoked a war with the underground race of Locusts. In parallel with the preparation of the film, a remaster of the first part of the game Gears of War: Reloaded with improved graphics is expected, the release of which is scheduled for August 26.
