Activision Reduces Call of Duty Size on PlayStation 5 by 100GB
The Call of Duty developers have carried out a major optimization of the game’s size, reducing the amount of space it takes up on the PS5 from 126 GB to 25 GB. For the PlayStation 4 version, the reduction was less significant, from 81 GB to 62 GB. This unprecedented reduction in the game’s size in an era when most games take up over 100 GB was met with enthusiasm by the community, with many players calling it the best improvement to the series in recent years.

Some analysts attribute the optimization to the competition with the upcoming release of Battlefield 6, which is reported to take up between 55 and 80 GB. While it is unlikely that such a large-scale reduction was made in just a month, the timing of the optimization seems strategically calculated. Freeing up 101 GB of space allows players to simultaneously store Call of Duty and other large titles, such as Red Dead Redemption 2, on the console, which may reduce the likelihood of deleting the game in favor of newer titles.
