Tomb Raider TV Series Set to Launch in January 2026, Starring Sophie Turner
Prime Video has officially launched the development of a series based on the cult video game series Tomb Raider. The show's lead character will be Sophie Turner, who gained wide recognition for her role as Sansa Stark in Game of Thrones. Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who previously faced criticism for protracted preparation, is responsible for the script and general management of the project. She has been joined by Chad Hodge, known for Wayward Pines, who will work as a co-showrunner.

The start of the production process is scheduled for January 19, 2026, and the director's chair for several episodes will be occupied by Jonathan Van Tulleken, who recently worked on Shogun.
For Sophie Turner, the role of Lara Croft will be an important stage in her career - she will be the third performer to embody the famous archaeologist on screen after Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander. According to THR, Turner emerged as the leading candidate in late 2024, with Mackenzie Davis, Emma Mackie, and Lucy Boynton also considered for the shortlist.

The project began development in early 2023, with the streaming service placing a production order in spring 2024. The show is being developed by Crystal Dynamics, the franchise's game developer, Story Kitchen, and Amazon MGM Studios. A premiere date and more details are expected later this year.
