Ubisoft Says Far Cry's Future Is Multiplayer and Long-Term Player Engagement

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has spoken about the strategic vector for the Far Cry series. According to him, the company's key task will be to create a richer multiplayer experience that will keep players in the game longer and make collaboration a central part of the franchise.

These plans are directly related to the project codenamed Maverick — an extraction shooter where participants will have to survive in the wild, extract resources, fight animals and opponents, and try to get out of the danger zone. Maverick is conceived as an independent multiplayer direction that can expand the series' audience.

At the same time, Ubisoft is simultaneously developing the main line — the Blackbird project, which, according to insiders, is Far Cry 7. Despite the company's ambitions, some studio employees have doubts about Maverick. They believe that the game relies too heavily on a recognizable brand, but at the same time does not offer enough original mechanics to stand out from the competition.
