Insider: GTA 6 will feature a crime system inspired by Red Dead Redemption 2

Reputable insider Tez2 has reported that GTA 6 will use the updated crime system first implemented in RDR 2. This could mean the ability to pay off the police, intimidate witnesses, or get rid of them to cover your tracks.

Insider: GTA 6 will feature a crime system inspired by Red Dead Redemption 2

The statement was made during a discussion of the Rage Engine source code for 2022 on one of the fan forums. Users drew attention to inactive features in the GTA 5 files, including speeding tickets, and assumed that they would be transferred to the new part of the series. However, the insider explained that Rockstar changed the format of the crime mechanics in Red Dead Redemption 2, and this model formed the basis for the future system, so the features from GTA 5 may not be relevant.

If the leak is confirmed, GTA 6 will receive mechanics previously unusual for the franchise. In RDR2, for example, the wanted level only extended to certain regions, and fines could be paid while in another state. The system also allowed players to directly influence eyewitnesses to crimes.

There were earlier rumors that the new part would return to the 6-star wanted level. GTA 6 is scheduled for release on May 26, 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
