Bloomberg: iPhone 17 and 17 Pro cases scratch easily without a case

After the iPhone 17 went on sale, many owners and journalists began noticing that the new smartphones' casings were losing their appearance within hours. At demonstration sites in New York, London, Shanghai, and Hong Kong, the devices showed noticeable scuffs and scratches, and the iPhone 17 Pro was found to have characteristic circular marks from the MagSafe charging port.

Bloomberg confirmed the issue and noted that the darker versions of the smartphones, including the Deep Blue color, where the sheen of the metal contrasts sharply with the painted surface, were particularly affected. Journalists speculate that the cause lies in Apple's switch from a titanium casing to an aluminum one, which has proven less resistant to damage.

The situation sparked a heated debate on social media: a hashtag about the defects in the new iPhones has garnered over 40 million views on China's Weibo. Similar complaints have been heard before—in 2012 with the iPhone 5 and in 2016 with the iPhone 7. Apple has not yet made an official comment this time.
