Mortal Kombat 3 is officially in development—the screenwriter has already begun working on the plot.
At New York Comic-Con, screenwriter Jeremy Slater announced that he had begun writing the script for a third Mortal Kombat film. Although Mortal Kombat 2 has not yet been released, the filmmakers are already confident of the franchise's box office success and have decided not to delay development of the sequel.
According to Slater, the decision to develop the third film was made by New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. Discovery, which consider Mortal Kombat one of the most stable and sought-after action franchises. This is unsurprising: each film adaptation of the action franchise consistently generates fan interest and achieves strong box office results.
Mortal Kombat 2 was originally scheduled for release on October 24, 2025, but was moved to May 15, 2026. The studios are confident that a spring release will ensure greater commercial success, and the announcement of a third installment has only heightened anticipation among fans.
