X will launch its own login store – rare names will cost thousands of dollars

Social network X is preparing to launch a new marketplace called the X Handle Marketplace, where users will be able to buy and sell usernames. The platform aims to replicate the success of Telegram, which has a similar system in place for a long time.

Usernames will be divided into two categories: usernames consisting of words or alphanumeric combinations, which can be obtained for free, and rare and short usernames, whose price starts at $2,500 and will depend on their uniqueness.

After changing a username, the previous username will be locked, and in the future, the option to switch between multiple usernames will be available for a fee. If a user cancels a paid subscription, the account will automatically revert to the previous username, and access to the new username will be lost.

The company notes that the X Handle Marketplace will be a permanent feature of the platform's ecosystem. The service is designed to stimulate subscriber growth and increase audience engagement, turning username selection into another monetization avenue.
