According to Deadline, Peter Berg, known for his action films "Mile 22," "Hancock," "Lone Survivor," and "The Kingdom," will direct a film based on the Call of Duty series. The screenplay for the upcoming film will be written by Taylor Sheridan, who received critical acclaim for the thriller "Sicario" and an Oscar nomination for the neo-Western "Hell or High Water." Sheridan later created the series "Yellowstone," "King of Tulsa," "Mayor of Kingstown," and "S.W.A.T.: Lioness."

Paramount Pictures and Activision will produce the film adaptation. The release date and cast have not yet been announced.

The project was officially announced in September, but the idea for a Call of Duty film had been conceived much earlier. As early as 2015, Activision planned to launch an entire film universe based on the franchise. At the time, the developers intended to depict wars across different eras and countries without direct overlap with the games' plots, but in the spirit of the Black Ops and Modern Warfare sub-series. To achieve this, the studio consulted with military experts and veterans, preparing several scripts in advance.

By 2020, the film had already secured a director—Stefano Sollima, the director of the sequel Sicario 2: The World—and Scott Silver, known for his work on Joker and The Fighter, was collaborating with him on the script. However, the project never reached production. Now, the Call of Duty franchise has a second chance at a major film—with a new creative duo at the helm.
