Sapkowski confirmed that he is not involved in the creation of The Witcher IV, but is happy with his collaboration with CD Projekt RED

Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski, creator of The Witcher universe, discussed his current relationship with CD Projekt RED and his absence from the development of the next installment in the series. He emphasized his complete satisfaction with the current contracts with the company and hopes their partnership will continue.

Sapkowski and CD Projekt RED had previously been involved in a protracted conflict. In the early 2000s, the writer sold the studio a license to create games based on his works, opting for a one-time payment rather than a percentage of sales. After the Geralt games became global hits, he admitted he deeply regretted his decision and accused the developers of dishonesty. He later demanded additional compensation, and the two parties reached an agreement in 2019.

Responding to a question about The Witcher IV, Sapkowski noted that the studio no longer consults with him, as they did on previous games. He confirmed that he is not currently involved in the production of the new installment.

The writer also noted that CD Projekt games often feature elements not found in the original books. For example, the idea of witcher schools was conceived by the studio's screenwriters, and Sapkowski himself compared it to the houses in Harry Potter and admitted that he is not comfortable with such innovations.
