Nintendo may take on a Donkey Kong movie after The Legend of Zelda
Following the success of "The Super Mario Bros. Movie," Nintendo continues to expand its cinematic universe, and now information about the company's next major project has surfaced online. According to insider MyTimeToShineHello, Nintendo has begun work on an animated film about Donkey Kong. The film is expected to be released around 2028 and will follow the live-action adaptation of The Legend of Zelda, which is scheduled for release in May 2027. Previously, insider Daniel Richtman mentioned a possible Donkey Kong adaptation, but details were kept under wraps.

The idea seems logical given Nintendo's investor statements, where the company has already confirmed its intention to regularly release films based on its franchises. Corporate materials noted that other projects are in development in addition to those already announced, and all indications are that Donkey Kong could be among the first in line.
The character has already appeared on the big screen in a Mario film, voiced by Seth Rogen. However, the character has not yet been announced for the sequel. The actor himself had previously expressed interest in a standalone Donkey Kong story and considered Donkey Kong Country an excellent basis for a family adventure centered on themes of friendship and freedom.
