The former director of the Splinter Cell remake is back at the helm of the project
The Splinter Cell series has received a new boost: users have noticed that David Grivel, who once served as game director for the remake of the first game, has returned to lead the game's production. He previously led that project from late 2021 to fall 2022, but then decided to leave Ubisoft.

After leaving, the developer moved to Ridgeline Games, where he helped create the story campaign for Battlefield 6. However, the studio closed in 2024, and Grivel returned to Ubisoft to work on an unnamed project, but soon left the company again. According to his LinkedIn profile, he spent 2025 working with various teams as a guest contributor and consultant, including assisting the creators of the cyberpunk action game Neo Berlin 2087. Now, he's back working on Splinter Cell, having resumed directing the remake in November.

The project, being developed using the Snowdrop engine, was unveiled back in December 2021. Ubisoft hasn't shared any updated information since then, but the developers previously emphasized their plans to thoroughly rework the classic game, improving the stealth mechanics and partially rewriting the storyline. Grivel's return could be an important step forward for the project, which has long remained in the shadows.
