Helldivers 2 developers have reduced the game's size from 154 GB to 23 GB

Arrowhead Studios, in collaboration with Nixxies engineers, has extensively optimized the size of the co-op action game Helldivers 2, reducing it from its original 154 gigabytes to just 23 gigabytes. This unprecedented 85 percent reduction in the distribution was achieved by eliminating duplicate data previously stored on traditional hard drives to speed up loading.

According to the developers, only about 11 percent of players still use HDDs, and for them, the impact of these changes will be minimal—the increase in mission load times will be a matter of seconds. The main delays are not related to reading data from the disk, but to procedural level generation, which runs in parallel with resource loading.

The optimized version of the game is currently available in beta mode for stability testing. Arrowhead Studios is committed to eliminating any technical issues before the full release of the update, which will be a significant relief for users with limited disk space.
