Uwe Boll is returning to his roots with a new adaptation of Alone in the Dark

Director Uwe Boll, long known for the (to put it mildly) low quality of his films, as well as his passion for video games and their adaptations, is once again turning to the Alone in the Dark franchise. Despite the controversial reputation of his previous adaptations, he has decided to revisit the cult horror film that once laid the foundations of the survival horror genre.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Boll has acquired the rights to create a new film based on Alone in the Dark. This time, he plans to combine the various versions of the series, borrowing the dark and disturbing atmosphere of the original game and plot elements from the 2024 reboot. However, the actors who starred in the last reimagining will not be involved in the project, and the characters will be portrayed differently on screen.

Alone in the Dark began in 1992 and spans seven classic installments, as well as a modern reboot released in 2024. The story revolves around detective Edward Carnby and Emily Hartwood, who find themselves in a haunted mansion rife with secrets and supernatural threats. Ball previously explored this universe in 2005, releasing a film starring Christian Slater, but that film was met with a lukewarm reception. Now, the director intends to reimagine the material and give the franchise another chance on the big screen.
