Grand Theft Auto IV: Player Completes 100% of GTA IV According to Law-Abiding Citizen Rules

The Grand Theft Auto franchise has always been built around chaos, crime, and the freewheeling lawbreaking, but one player decided to defy the very premise of the series. This enthusiast proved that it's possible to complete GTA IV entirely without breaking the game's title's main prohibition—stealing cars.

A Reddit user named daxtonanderson reported that he managed to complete the game 100% without stealing a single car. To achieve this, he had to find creative solutions, as many missions directly involved stealing vehicles. In Stevie's missions, which required delivering 30 cars, the player physically pushed the cars to the target point using vehicles provided as part of the quest or pre-ordered vehicles that weren't considered stolen.

The motorcycle missions proved particularly difficult. To move the bikes without breaking the challenge, the player damaged the front wheels of police cars by lowering the crash bar closer to the ground. This allowed him to gently push motorcycles without running over them or getting behind the wheel. He still couldn't completely avoid theft: during the course of the game, he had to formally "capture" five boats in missions with automatic character placement, as well as one helicopter in a similar scenario.

As a result, the player's GTA IV playthrough became akin to a citizen simulator. Instead of cars, he regularly used the subway and taxis to get to missions, and the process itself was much more measured and atypical for the series. It took daxtonanderson about 50 hours of playtime to achieve 100%.

The Reddit community enthusiastically responded to the unusual achievement, praising the player's ingenuity and the breadth of freedom GTA IV offers. In the comments, users jokingly suggested renaming this playthrough "Grand 4" or even "Grand Subway & Taxi 4," emphasizing how unconventional this journey through Liberty City turned out to be.
