Telegram for Android will become closer to iOS in design and navigation

The Telegram team is closing out the year with a major redesign of the Android version of the messenger. In the test build of the app, version 12.3.0, the developers significantly redesigned the familiar interface structure and updated the visual style, aiming for unification with the iOS version.

The main change was the removal of the classic sidebar. It was replaced by a floating bottom panel, which houses the key sections of the app: chats, contacts, calls, and the user profile. This format has long been used on Apple devices, and now the Android client is moving in the same direction to ensure a unified user experience across platforms.

The redesign also affected many other elements. The top section of the interface has become more minimalist and visually blends with the background, the search bar has expanded to the full width of the screen, and chat folders are now presented as a horizontal ribbon. User and channel profiles now have quick action buttons, and the settings section now features colorful icons for clearer and more convenient navigation.

Currently, the updated interface is only available in the beta version of the app and remains partially localized: some labels in the bottom menu and search suggestions are still displayed in English. A full release of the redesign in the stable version is expected soon.
