The foldable HUAWEI Mate XT's durability was tested with hard drops
Folding smartphones are often perceived as fragile devices that require especially careful handling. It's widely believed that flexible screens and complex mechanisms are inferior to classic candybar devices in terms of reliability. However, a new video from Chinese social media has shown that the HUAWEI Mate XT can withstand much harsher conditions than expected.
In the video, the device is repeatedly dropped onto a hard floor, both folded and fully open. The smartphone falls first with its outer screen facing down, then with its inner screen facing down, and these tests are repeated over and over again. Despite this, the device continues to function reliably, as if it hadn't been subjected to such extreme testing.
After each drop, the author turns on the device and carefully checks the touchscreen response and the condition of the displays. There are no dead pixels on the screens, the touchscreen responds correctly to touch, and the body and back panel show no noticeable damage. The key to such durability lies in the design. The 10.2-inch flexible display is made of multilayer composite materials with ultra-thin glass and non-Newtonian fluid, which hardens on impact and absorbs the energy of a fall. This is complemented by a sophisticated double-loop hinge made of high-strength steel, rated for loads up to 1900 MPa, which evenly distributes impact no matter how the device is positioned.
