A former developer is confident that Rockstar could have launched a new project even before the release of GTA VI

Former Rockstar Games employee Mike York suggested that the studio has already initiated work on the next major title, despite GTA VI not yet being released. He speculates that this could be a new GTA installment, a continuation of the Red Dead Redemption series, or an entirely different project of comparable scope.

York, who worked as an animator on GTA V and RDR 2, pointed to the standard practice at large gaming companies. At such studios, it's rare for the entire team to be fully focused on a single title. Typically, the foundation for the next game is being laid in parallel, even if it's in the very early stages of production.

However, the former developer emphasized that the possible start of work doesn't necessarily mean an imminent release. Games at Rockstar's level require a long and complex development cycle, often spanning five to seven years of active production. Therefore, the studio's next major game, even if it's already in development, is unlikely to appear before the early to mid-2030s.

York also noted that the upcoming project isn't necessarily related to GTA or Red Dead, but he has little doubt that Rockstar is already busy developing a new ambitious game, albeit still in its early stages.
