Google has unveiled Aluminum OS, a new operating system based on Android 16
The first evidence of a new Google operating system, codenamed Aluminum OS, has unexpectedly surfaced online. The company accidentally published a video demonstrating the platform on the Chromium Issue Tracker. The recording was posted as part of an internal bug report, but access to it was soon blocked. However, users managed to save the video and share it outside the service.
According to the leak, Aluminum OS is based on Android 16 and visually combines elements of its mobile and desktop operating systems. This immediately fueled speculation about a possible strategic shift by Google toward unifying its platforms. It is believed that the new OS could become a universal solution for both smartphones and personal computers, gradually displacing ChromeOS from the laptop and Chromebook market.
Indirect signs indicate that development is in active stages. The interface features elements characteristic of windowed mode, improved multitasking, and peripheral access, features previously not prioritized by classic Android. There has been no official comment from Google yet, but the leak itself has fueled rumors that the company is preparing a radical unification of its ecosystems and a rethinking of its approach to its operating systems in the coming years.
