Take-Two and Gearbox have suspended development of the Nintendo Switch 2 version of Borderlands 4
According to Take-Two Interactive's third-quarter financial report, production of the Nintendo Switch 2 port of Borderlands 4 has been suspended. Company representatives described the decision as difficult but did not provide a specific explanation for the development freeze. As a result, the project has been removed from the publisher's upcoming release schedule, raising questions about its future. The port was originally scheduled for release on October 3, 2025, but was postponed shortly before the scheduled date without further explanation.
This development may indicate technical difficulties in adapting a graphically complex shooter to the hardware capabilities of a hybrid console. Borderlands 4 launched on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X on September 12, 2025, and continues to be actively supported by Gearbox Software, which regularly releases new content and optimization updates.
A final decision on the fate of the Switch 2 version of Borderlands 4 will depend on the results of further technical research and negotiations between Take-Two, Gearbox, and Nintendo. At the moment, the developers' focus remains on supporting existing versions of the game and creating additional content for the established audience.
