South Korean studio Nexon will create a new game based on the StarCraft universe

Nexon and Blizzard Entertainment have signed an agreement to develop a new game set in the StarCraft universe. The contract between the South Korean publisher and the American studio was officially signed on February 2 following negotiations that had been ongoing for the past year.

Specific details of the project have not yet been disclosed. It is known that the game is in the early stages of production and is being developed by Nexon's Shooting Division. This has led to speculation among fans of the series that the project may not be a real-time strategy game, but a shooter, possibly similar to Sudden Attack.

While the development team is still being assembled, Choi Jeong-ho, a well-known developer in the community and creator of the popular custom map Temple Smashing, has already been hired to work on the game. The StarCraft series has not received a new mainline game since 2015, and the last major release was a remaster of the original game in 2017. Since then, Blizzard has focused on other franchises, such as Warcraft and Overwatch.
