SEGA has released a remake of Yakuza 3 and a prequel about the main villain

SEGA, in collaboration with Ryu Ga Gotoku, unveiled Yakuza Kiwami 3 & Dark Ties, a complete remake of the classic third game and a completely new spin-off story. The release was simultaneous on PC and all current consoles.

This remake of the original Yakuza 3, released in 2009, was built from the ground up using the modern Dragon Engine. The developers retained the core storyline, which still centers on Kazuma Kiryu, who finds himself embroiled in a dangerous conflict unfolding between quiet Okinawa and bustling Tokyo. However, the team significantly expanded the narrative, adding new episodes and additional subplots, allowing for a fresh perspective on the familiar story. All key aspects of the game have been significantly refined and elevated to a whole new level.

The Dark Ties spin-off, focusing on Yoshitaka Mine, one of the main antagonists of the third game, deserves special attention. The project tells the character's backstory, showing the journey of a successful man who, having lost everything, consciously chose a life in the yakuza criminal underworld. The set is available in two versions: standard and expanded, which includes additional content.
