Embracer Group has abandoned plans for a new Saints Row game set in the 1970s, dashing hopes for a revival of the series

Original Saints Row designer Chris Stockman revealed the tragic fate of the iconic series. He claimed that the Embracer Group, the conglomerate that owns the franchise, ignored his proposed reboot concept, effectively putting an end to the brand's future development.

Stockman revealed in a conversation with fans that Embracer representatives approached him as early as the fall of 2025 with a proposal to develop a new concept for Saints Row. The designer had prepared an ambitious project, set in the 1970s and starring teenage versions of the characters from the very first game. The plot envisioned a story about the origins of the legendary gangs, which would have allowed for a seamless reboot of the franchise and restored its former popularity.

However, after submitting the materials, contact with the publisher was lost. Embracer Group simply stopped responding to messages without providing any explanation or comment. Stockman stated that the franchise can apparently be considered dead, as its owners have neither the understanding nor the desire to do anything with it.

The latest Saints Row reboot, released in August 2022, was a flop, receiving scathing reviews from critics and players. Just a year later, Volition, the studio responsible for developing the series for many years, was closed. Since then, no official news has been released about the future of the franchise.
