Ubisoft is preparing a "director's cut" of Watch Dogs: Legion with new content and a night mode
Despite recent announcements of the series' demise, it appears the Watch Dogs franchise will continue, albeit in an unusual format. Reputable insider Tom Henderson has revealed details of Ubisoft's plans for a remaster of the third installment, Watch Dogs: Legion, which was released in October 2020 to lukewarm reviews from critics and players.
According to Henderson, the publisher is preparing an expanded "director's cut" edition similar to the one previously released for Death Stranding. The game will feature new content and updated character animations, for which the studio is already conducting motion capture sessions. One of the key features of the remaster could be a so-called "night mode," which would significantly alter the atmosphere and gameplay of the original game.

It's noteworthy that the choice fell on Watch Dogs: Legion, which is considered the weakest part of the trilogy and has the worst user rating on Steam. Analysts suggest that Ubisoft took the easy way out by updating the most recent game in the series, which requires fewer resources than a full-fledged remake of the first two installments, which are more beloved by fans.
Earlier, another insider, under the pseudonym shinobi602, dismissed rumors of the franchise being completely shelved, hinting that it has a future. It's possible that the release of the expanded edition could be timed to coincide with the premiere of the long-awaited film adaptation of Watch Dogs, directed by Mathieu Turi, which wrapped filming in the fall of 2024. Ubisoft has not yet made any official comment.
