Valve has returned Counter-Strike: Global Offensive to Steam after two and a half years

Valve made an unexpected move that delighted many fans of the classic shooter. Counter-Strike: Global Offensive has reappeared on the Steam digital store, making it available for download to anyone without any hassle. Now, anyone can simply find the game in the catalog and install it to immerse themselves in a nostalgic atmosphere.

Previously, after the release of Counter-Strike 2 in September 2023, access to CS:GO was severely restricted. Valve replaced the original game in users' libraries with a new version, and the servers for the previous game were shut down. Those who wanted to return to the classic game were forced to resort to complex launch procedures through beta versions in Steam settings, which required specific knowledge and created additional obstacles.

Now the situation has changed dramatically. The game once again has its own store page and can be installed independently of Counter-Strike 2. However, it's worth noting that the official multiplayer servers are still down, so enjoying online battles with live opponents is unavailable. Only bot modes are available, but that hasn't deterred long-suffering fans.

Interest in the return of the classic has proven enormous: within the first hours of CS:GO's release, peak online usage exceeded 12,800 concurrent players and continues to grow. People are eager to hop on board to revisit old maps, reminisce about the shooting mechanics, and simply explore familiar locations alongside AI opponents. Perhaps Valve is testing demand or preparing the ground for a more serious return of the iconic shooter, but the company hasn't yet commented on its decision.
