Liquid Swords reveals details of the city and vehicles in the action game Samson
Liquid Swords studio continues to share details about its upcoming crime action game, Samson: A Tyndalston Story. In a new developer diary, the team discussed two key components of the game: city development and vehicle design.
The game takes place in the fictional Tyndalston, inspired by the appearance of northeastern American cities of the 1990s, primarily New York City and Philadelphia. The developers meticulously studied archival photographs to capture the atmosphere of the era, but avoided copying reality exactly. The city in Samson is shabby and uninviting, but with striking visual accents like street graffiti that add character.
A similar approach was taken with the cars. Instead of licensing real brands, the studio created recognizable variations on the theme of cars from the 1990s and 2000s. Avoiding deals with automakers allowed the studio to avoid creative restrictions and maintain complete design freedom. An interesting detail: the main character initially drove a standard, unremarkable sedan, but the team later realized that a boring car didn't suit the protagonist's image and created a unique car, the Magnum Opus, for him.
As a reminder, Samson: A Tyndalston Story is scheduled for release on April 8th. The game will be released on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, but the developers are already considering a console port.
