Google Releases OS Fuchsia, System Available For Next Generation Nest Hub Smart Screens
On August 17, Google unveiled the freshly baked Fuchsia OS. At the end of beta testing, the final version 1.52.260996 became available for the first smart screens of the Nest Hub, as reported by the 9to5google portal with reference to the official confirmation of the company.

Fuchsia is an open source OS development from Google. It is suitable for installation on various electronic devices, from smart home systems to smartphones. The system is based on the work of the Zircon microkernel, which is less resource-intensive compared to the Linux kernel on Android and OS Chrome. The interface and software of the operating system is developed using the Flutter SDK, which allows you to create cross-platform code with the ability to run on both Android and Apple devices. Fuchsia also supports the Dart programming language and the more common C / C ++, Go and Apple Swift. In March last year, the system was transferred to the final stage of tests for public release, and in May this year, the launch of the OS on smart screens Nest Hub 1st generation was announced, for which an update was sent to the members of the Preview Program beta testing program. Now the official exit has passed.

Last week, an update to the technical support page gave access to a new build. Distribution is gradual, so some users should be patient.

Previously, 1st generation Nest Hub smart screens ran on Cast OS, which in turn was based on Linux. According to 9to5google, many users will not be able to distinguish between the old and the new OS, since almost nothing has changed regarding the UI and UX. This can be explained by the fact that the interface was developed using the Flutter cross-platform framework. At the same time, one should hope for an increase in the speed of work and responsiveness. It is also worth noting that such a seamless change from one system to another is in itself a great achievement.

Google notes that Fuchsia has such qualities as safety, inclusiveness, practicality. It will also be regularly updated and can be used in industrial operation. However, the specific purpose of the system is still unclear. Previously, the company conducted OS tests on Pixelbook devices and worked on integrating native support for Android and Linux programs.

Three years ago, Bloomberg reported that the new platform will be released in 2021 and will eventually replace the rest of Google's systems on all devices. At the same time, the boss of the Android and Chrome OS development team, Hiroshi Lockheimer, denied the thesis that Fuchsia will become a direct replacement for other platforms. According to him, Fuchsia will help in upgrading the OS and other related aspects.
