OPPO is going to release its own chipsets for mobile devices. Thus, she wants to reduce dependence on third-party semiconductor manufacturers. Successful implementation of the initiative will make it possible to minimize the risks associated with the shortage of components that began in 2022.
OPPO is working on its Application Processor chipset based on TSMC's 6nm process, expected to be unveiled in 2023. At the same time, the company is preparing for the release of an SoC with an integrated application chip and a modem, its release is scheduled for 2024.
Prior to this, OPPO has already developed the Mariana MariSilicon X dedicated AI processor used in the Find X5 Pro. It is assumed that future solutions will first be tested in budget segment smartphones, and then they will be used in other models.
OPPO is not the first company to use its own chipsets - before that, Apple and Google began to use their own processors. Thanks to this, manufacturers have been able to improve process control and reduce dependence on intermediaries.
