In June, the European Parliament decided to use a single charging port in mobile devices. Apple commented on the introduction of this rule just now.

The head of the marketing department of the Cupertino company Greg Joswiak, in response to a question from The Wall Street Journal journalist Joanna Stern, lamented that Apple would have to comply with this decision of the European Union, since companies simply do not leave any other choice.

The adopted law states that from the fall of 2024, all smartphones, tablets, headphones, digital cameras, portable game consoles and e-readers launched on the EU market must be equipped with a unified USB Type-C port with the ability to charge the device. Joswiak did not say if Apple would keep its proprietary Lighting port on devices sold outside the EU.

Joswiak was also dissatisfied with the fact that the transition to USB Type-C allegedly will lead to more e-waste. It remains to be seen whether a universal port will appear on Apple devices next year or if Apple will extend the transition process until 2024. There is also a possibility that the company will completely deprive its flagship iPhone smartphones of any ports, and USB Type-C will remain purely on budget models, for example, the iPhone SE.
