The Last of Us Showrunner Considers GTA 6 the Most Important Media Event in History

Craig Mazin, known as the showrunner of The Last of Us, in an interview with Variety expressed his opinion on the future of the upcoming crime action film, the release of which is expected in the fall of 2025. He emphasized that the film, TV series and video game industry is increasingly faced with high expectations from the audience, which requires long and painstaking work from creators. However, the result often justifies the efforts, turning into cultural phenomena.



Mazin is confident that GTA 6 will not only be successful, but perhaps the largest and best-selling media product of all time, excluding religious scriptures like the Bible. He suggested that Hollywood is closely monitoring the release of the new part, given its influence on the entertainment industry as a whole.

The showrunner also noted that modern players and viewers demand a high level of quality and detail, which makes the development of games and TV series increasingly labor-intensive. Game projects are becoming larger in scale, and show episodes are reminiscent of full-length films, which explains the growing production times.
