Renowned producer Adi Shankar, who is behind the successful animated adaptations of Castlevania and Devil May Cry, has announced that he has acquired the rights to produce a film adaptation of the cult first-person shooter Duke Nukem. Shankar intends to preserve the provocative essence of the original, emphasizing that the commercial approach of large studios is unable to convey the true spirit of the character.
According to the producer, Duke Nukem has always been a kind of protest against conventions, and this project will be no exception. Shankar is currently focused on completing the 2nd season of Devil May Cry, which promises to be darker thanks to the appearance of Vergil, so work on Duke Nukem will begin later.

In addition, Shankar noted that his animation style, although inspired by Japanese traditions, is closer to classic American cartoons. This raises interest in how the hypermasculine image of Duke Nukem, which became a symbol of 90s gaming culture, will be visually reimagined.
