At Summer Game Fest 2025, developers from Mundfish presented an announcement of Atomic Heart II, the long-awaited sequel to the popular 2023 shooter, which is still supported by updates and add-ons. Although the project is already in development, its release will not take place in the near future.
In an interview with Wccftech, the founder of the studio Robert Bagratuni revealed some details about the upcoming game. He confirmed that the sequel will surpass the original in scale and quality, and also dispelled a number of rumors associated with the project. The action of Atomic Heart II will unfold several years after the events of the first part and its DLC, and the game will finally clarify which of the original's endings is considered canonical. Despite the use of the Queen Don't Stop Me Now composition in the trailer, the developers will retain the Soviet and Slavic aesthetics, only adding references to the 70s, when Western culture began to penetrate the USSR through music and other elements.

The story of Major Nechayev, also known as P-3, will continue, and the gameplay will receive significant changes. The developers will focus on freedom of movement and an open world: the sequel will feature vehicles, new ways of moving, and more diverse content created with quality in mind, not quantity. In addition, the game will add RPG elements, including character customization, a skill upgrade system, and plot dilemmas, the consequences of which will affect the further development of events.
Atomic Heart II will not feature a multiplayer mode - its development is being carried out within the framework of another project of the studio, The Cube. The trailer for the game contains fragments of real gameplay, and all frames were created on the Unreal Engine 5. Bagratuni clarified that production has already gone beyond the prototyping stage, but it will take several more years before the game is released. The exact release date has not yet been disclosed.
