At the 27th Shanghai International Film Festival, the China Film Foundation presented a large-scale project to digitize and update legendary martial arts films using artificial intelligence technologies. The list for restoration included one hundred cult films, including Fist of Fury with Bruce Lee, Drunken Master with Jackie Chan and Once Upon a Time in China. In parallel, work is underway on the world's first animated action film created entirely using AI.

The project involves comprehensive improvement of the image quality, soundtrack and visual effects of classic films while preserving their original style and atmosphere. In the first stage, it is planned to restore ten films, for which $14 million has already been allocated. According to Canxing Media CEO Tian Ming, artificial intelligence acts as a tool that allows for a new discovery of cultural heritage, where classical kung fu remains an important part of Chinese identity.

Of particular interest is the futuristic project Cyber Border — a modern interpretation of John Woo's crime drama A Brighter Tomorrow, created by a team of thirty people using a full cycle of AI technologies. As noted by producer Zhang Qing, the use of artificial intelligence reduced the production time from several years to months, opening up new opportunities for cinematography. The film combines traditional martial arts with cyberpunk aesthetics, demonstrating the potential of new technologies.

The organizers emphasize that the project has not only technological but also cultural significance. Chinese developers have already received calls to more actively use national images — from the legendary martial arts master Huang Feihong to the mythological hero Neizha — to create competitive gaming projects in the fighting genre. According to Zhang Qing, it is time to correct the paradox when the most popular kung fu games are created outside of China, despite the country's rich heritage in this area.
