Director reveals details of new Resident Evil adaptation with original plot
Zach Cregger, known for the film "Barbarian", shared details about his work on the new film adaptation of Resident Evil. In an interview with Inverse, the director explained that the film will not be a direct adaptation of the game stories and will not focus on famous characters like Leon Kennedy or Jill Valentine. Instead, viewers will be treated to a completely new story, which, according to Cregger, will be a "declaration of love" to the original series of games and will respect the lore established in them.

Cregger emphasized that as a fan of the franchise, he strives to preserve the atmosphere of Resident Evil, but at the same time wants to offer a fresh look at the universe. According to preliminary data, the plot of the film, which is scheduled for release on September 18, 2026, will focus on one main character and his journey from "point A to point B". The director promised that the film will be a high-quality adaptation with a gripping story that respects the source of inspiration, but does not copy it.
