Zoomers Cut Video Game Spending: Study Finds 25% Drop
Analytical agency Circana has published data showing a significant decline in Generation Z spending on video games in the first half of 2025. Compared to the same period in 2024, weekly spending by zoomers (born between 1997 and 2012) on the gaming industry decreased by 25%, while for other age groups this figure was only 5%. The overall drop in spending among young people reached 13%, which experts attribute to the worsening economic situation.

The main reasons for this trend were difficulties with employment, unstable earnings and an increase in credit card delinquencies among young people - this figure reached its highest level since the COVID-19 pandemic. Analysts predict a further deterioration of the situation, which could seriously affect the industry, which is increasingly dependent on revenue from game services that require constant micropayments. As younger audiences shrink in spending, publishers may have to rethink their monetization strategies.
