Analyst warns about GTA 6's main competitor - it turns out to be GTA 5

Circana expert Matt Piscatella in an interview with GamesIndustry.biz expressed the opinion that the main competitor of the upcoming GTA 6 could be the previous part of the series - GTA 5. According to his observations, the modern gaming market is increasingly focused on the models of games-as-services, such as Fortnite and Minecraft, which have been holding the audience for decades.

A particular challenge for Rockstar Games will be the need to transfer the large audience of GTA Online to the future paid game, while the current version continues to be listed in the top twenty best-selling projects 11 years after its release. Piscatella believes that the industry will eventually switch to the free-to-play distribution model, since traditional premium projects like 30-hour RPGs for $80 will lose out in competition with complex service games offering a variety of content and free entry.
