New Resident Evil film adaptation to be released in 2026 and will resemble earlier games in the series

After the controversial path of the Resident Evil franchise on the screens, including the successful first films by Paul Anderson, and then the failed sequels, reboot and series, viewers can expect a new attempt to transfer the cult game to the big screen. Zach Cregger, famous for the horror "Weapons", is responsible for the production.

The director noted that the plot structure will be similar to Resident Evil 2 and 3: the story is built as a character's path from one point to another with a gradual immersion into the dark depths of what is happening. The atmosphere will be closer to RE4, which will add tension and dynamics.

The main role will be played by Austin Abrams, who became famous for the projects "Weapons" and "Euphoria". The heroes of the original games will not appear in the film adaptation, the emphasis will be on the new story. Filming will start in the near future, and the premiere is scheduled for 2026.

For Kregger, the project is especially important: he has made no secret of his affection for the game series and has spoken on numerous occasions about playing through Resident Evil 4. His successful experience with the horror film Weapons, which is currently in theaters and has already shown excellent results at the box office, increases expectations for the new adaptation.
